Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She became a Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. The year 1981 saw her begin reporting on the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered in the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. She reported on a variety of noteworthy stories including arm control, budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal and was frequently together with President Reagan to summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
