Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was conceived in Pittman Center on January 19 1946. She was raised in Sevierville to Avie Lee Parton (a housewife) and Robert Lee Parton (a tobacco farmer). At the age of 12 she was already on Knoxville TV. At 13 she was already recording on a label of a small size and performing at the Grand Ole Opry. After having graduated from high school in 1964, she moved to Nashville to begin her country singing career. Carl Dean, an asphalt-paving entrepreneur, fell for her and they got married on May 30 June, 1966. Porter Wagoner hired her in 1967 to appear on his show The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She remained on the show for seven years. The duets they performed became famous and she was invited to perform alongside him at the Grand Ole Opry. The hit song "Joshua" that reached the top spot in 1970 was her biggest hit single. She chose to go on her own while she recorded duets with him. In 1974, she walked away from the duo to become a solo artist. Dolly achieved immense fame as a songwriter/singer. Dolly was awarded many Country Music Association awards (1968-70 1971-1972 and 1975-1976 1976). She was a diminutive (5'0") beauty, who was a natural for television. The mid-1970s saw Dolly appeared on a variety of talk-shows and specials on TV before getting her own show, Dolly (1976). Dolly was awarded her first Grammy award in 1977 for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Dolly made her debut in a film in the film 9 to 5 in the year 1980. She received nominations for an Oscar for the title song, as well as Grammy awards 2/3: Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. She got more fame for appearing in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), and in Rhinestone (1984) with the song "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises, worth $100 million, is her main. Dollywood was established in Pigeon Forge in Tennessee in 1986 to celebrate her Smoky-Mountain roots. In the television series Dolly She was the main character herself. In 1988, she received another Grammy: Best Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals, for "Trio".
