Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts at stardom in mainstream music were unsuccessful. Perry was signed to two labels and was later dropped from them prior to any recordings had been released. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. Ur So Gay's title track was a jolly and sly song that attracted minimal notice. I Loved a Girl a straightforward ode expressing sexual curiosity backed with an electro-pop beat that was hardedged brought her more attention a few months later. Some critics accused the song of promoting homosexual relationships and others believed that the song's raunchy lyrics were designed to attract men with fantasies. Nevertheless the combination of polished and titillating melody made I Kissed a Girl become an instant hit across multiple countries, generating the album sales of the Boys (2008). Hot N Cold was a hit in America, and the second track on the album Hot N Cold with its fast and bouncy beat became popular.
